Situation

As you must have heard or read in the news, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake has wreaked havoc in the impoverished Caribbean island of Haiti. The earthquake struck yesterday at 5 pm EST in a highly populated region 17 km from the capital city of Port-au-Prince. Thousands are feared dead, many buildings have collapsed and the under-developed infrastructure has been severely damaged. The island has never experienced an earthquake of this intensity before and sadly, the death toll following this destructive event is expected to rise.
