Dear Chris,
I ask the sponsor (my client) to put together a planning group that represents as best as possible the system that is expected to come to the os event. This is the group I assist in doing the work involved in planning the os event. In all my experience I never had the sponsor pick cynics although I think it would be grand to have someone like that in the planning group along with the whole array of "...ics".
Have a great time in whatever right place you happen to be in just now

I am happy to have skeptics on a planning group, but not cynics. The
reason is that while both are high on doubt, only the skeptioc is high
on hope. Cynics who are high on doubt and low on hope can suck a lot of
energy out of a process. So early on it is worth pointing out that
"problem seeking" is not a behaviour that is going to get us where we
need to go in terms of planning.

The best plan is to talk about that and talk about what it would take to
have people work from a place of possibility, while still keeping their
eyes on real constraints. AS I get older and more experienced I let
people know pretty clearly that, while cynics are certainly welcome at
the event, I won't work with cynics on a core team. Bring on skepticism
and doubt, just be sure to use that to make our effort MORE possible and
not less so.

That's my two cents.

Harrison, thanks for your thoughts. Especially helpful to hear the

    Michele-

I didn't quite understand the question
"Is it possible that research into perhaps a new law could
highlight, an approach to your feeling of planned disruption?"

    Can you explain?

You can learn more about the Genuine Contact(tm) Program here:

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Raffi

Is it possible that research into perhaps a new law could highlight,
an approach to your feeling of planned disruption?

I appreciate this is a hot potato and I am a great academic failure,
    personally.

But the topic interests me, still WOSNOS is coming, to London and
maybe I will understand more then?

Genuine contact I think I have experienced it! But is there
    somewhere I could read more?

    Michele
