Frauke like others here on the listserve I am not comfortable with new principles such as 'try not to be cynical', 'try not to be critical'. In the kind of work we do I find that people are generally in those spaces almost by definition and we might accept them where they are, encourage them to express their views, create the space to address their concerns and build understanding so that they have the chance change their minds or see a way through.
I like this definition of a cynic: a disappointed optimist! And the antidote to disappointment is new hope and a plan of action. Open Space Technology provides the opportunity for that to emerge if it is going to. I am not sure we should build in a resistance to the expression of concerns which is likely to be cynical and critical in tone. kind regards Amanda On 14 May 2012, at 10:58, Artur Silva wrote: > Frauke: > > > I have the terrible habitude of trying to understand the context of things, > normally following the links or googling it, when I have the time. > > > In this case, I have followed the links but some pages didn't open and I > don't have a lot of time. > > So please can you explain us what other facilitation methods have been used > in the "immersion 2012" Program, previously to the OST (where this suggestion > of two more principles appeared)? > > Thank you > > Artur > > > > From: Frauke Godat <[email protected]> > To: World wide Open Space Technology email list > <[email protected]> > Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2012 5:45 PM > Subject: [OSList] From the Immersion 2012: some new Open Space principles? > > Today, we had the first Open Space within the Immersion 2012 gathering.
