Yes, thanks Harold... similar to the info Koos supplied: My googlemail
account has the following standard setting for vacation response:
"If a contact sends you several messages, this automated reply will be
sent at most once every 4 days)"
And also:
"Note: Messages sent to your spam folder and messages addressed to a
mailing list you subscribe to won't get your vacation response."

I have an extra tip for folks who turn on vacation replies: there usually
is a setting for how many mails are sent to one recipient. Tipically, you
have a choice to answer every mail automatically, or only the first mail
by a certain sender. The option "only the first mail" can prevent this
