Hello fellow OSers... I am hoping you might be able to help us out! I am co-leading a Compassionate Listening delegation to Alabama (with a brief stop over in Atlanta) in six weeks. Participants will come from throughout the US., traveling over the first ten days of the new year. We are not a partisan or advocacy group: we seek to build positive relationships and further understanding. Hence it is essential for us to listen to many perspectives and meet many different peoples and groups.
We are hoping you might refer us to individuals or groups in Alabama that would be willing to meet with us who hold a conservative perspective. We want to understand many aspects of Alabama's history, including values of faith and patriotism. (We have tried to connect with the United Daughters of the Confederacy but have not heard back from them. We have one connection with a GOP leader.) During the ideal listening session, we would sit with a speaker who would share their story and reflections from a personal perspective rather than a lecture or briefing session. After 20 to 30 minutes of our listening, we might offer reflections of what we heard, as well as appreciation. Towards the end, we might engage in dialogue where some of our participants share their perspectives. We do not engage in debate and refrain from any judgements. We have 24 in our group. We could meet at our hotel, or any other place of the speaker's choosing (or your recommendation!). We are a non profit with limited resources, but could offer a modest honorarium or donation to an organization where needed. Times and places we have open: - Montgomery - January 3 and 5 (afternoons) - Selma - January 6 Monday afternoon, evening, Tuesday mid morning Jan 7 - Birmingham - Tuesday January 7 2:30 or Wednesday January 8 after 2 pm - ATLANTA - Thursday afternoon, January 9 We are so hopeful you may find this intriguing and can help connect us with a few great speakers! We’d appreciate connecting with at least one woman and one younger person as well as anyone else you recommend. Please feel free to call or email with any questions or suggestions. Thank you for giving us your consideration and assistance.
