Hello all,

First time poster on this list. I have been an admirer of Open Space for many
years and tend to integrate it into my practice along with AI and World Café.

As one of the conference organizers for Evolve 2021
<http://www.evolve4change.com/> , I want to take a moment to thank Birgitt and
her colleagues for stepping up and improving upon the vision we had for the
inclusion of Open Space in our design. I’m looking forward to seeing the
brilliance that will emerge!

I also want to publicly thank Peggy for all of her gifts which she has so
generously shared with both myself and the other members of the planning team.
Her fingerprints are all over our design and there are several people on our
schedule who we would not have reached without her involvement and counsel.

Finally, I want to encourage you to take a look at the line-up for the
conference. I believe we have brought together an amazing mix of practitioners,
clients who’ve been impacted by large scale change initiatives, coaches,
scholars and others who love to play in the collaborative change space.

While our initial hope for the conference was that it would be face-to-face,
being virtual has its own advantages. It has allowed us to offer features that
would not have been as easily managed in a face-to-face environment. For
example, the conference will run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pacific time each
day. At 6:00 p.m. Pacific on the 20th and 21st, conveners from Asia will be
facilitating 90 minute live sessions at a time that is part of their normal
work time hours (i.e. the morning).

We’ve extended early bird pricing until October 8th. We also have group rates
that are in place. To qualify as a group, you only need to have 5 people
register together. You do not have to be part of the same organization. And if
you are a student, we have student pricing as well. Included in the price of
registering for Evolve 2021:

*       3 days (October 20, 21 22)
*       80 conveners
*       36 sessions
* 3 month access to recordings of the proceedings after the conference is
over

Thanks for taking the time to read through this lengthy post!

Best regards,

Bill Scott

What a great approach, Birgitt, to create an Open Space meeting within Evolve!!!

One point of history: this isn’t the first of "people from many communities of
practice, scholars, artists, and more.” We did it in 2007, the year the second
edition of The Change Handbook came out. It was called Nexus for Change. And we
spent a day in Open Space there.

Still, it has been too long and so much has evolved since then. I’m looking
forward to being part of this upcoming gathering.

Registration is here <https://evolve4change.com/2021/> .

I’m doing a session with a couple journalists called Let’s Talk News: Hosting
conversations about stories that help communities thrive

Subject: [OSList] Evolve conference Oct 20-22 enhancing the knowledge of the
field of collaborative change

Dear friends and colleagues,

The Evolve conference has a great line up of speakers and conveners, all
committed to facilitating change in the world. The list of speakers/conveners
includes a few people on our OS community, including Harrison Owen, Tova
Averbuch, Peggy Holman. As well, four of us (Suzanne Daigle, Jake Yeager,
Rachel Bolton and I) are facilitating a meeting within the conference using
Open Space Technology. When we were asked to each take a one hour session time
to have an Open Space during that session, with topics posted in the chat
window, it felt to me like a speed dating version of Open Space. The four of us
conferred and the result was to have one congruent OST meeting that had five
session times, using those sessions as topic conversation round times. We
wanted to offer as much time for the discussions as possible within the
structure of the conference, and we wanted to provide people who attended any
of the sessions to have the experience of being within something greater,
something that could make a bigger difference.

Having come up with that as our offer, and having the conference organizers
agree to one comprehensive OST meeting taking place in five one hour sessions
over the three days, we solved some of what felt limiting to us. Suzanne
wondered if we could use the last session to have a closing circle of the OST
and we all were very much in favor of her wish and she is facilitating that
session. We wanted to use some of the first session to open the space and
invite for the co-creation of the agenda wall, likely using Miro. The agenda
wall would be open for more topics to be added.

There are still some challenges to be worked out and with the help of the
conference organizers, we intend finding viable solutions. Right now, the
schedule on the website is offered as a list, so it appears that there are five
different Open Space sessions. We will find a way to communicate that what is
offered is an Open Space Technology meeting over the five sessions. Haven't
quite figured out how to convey that this isn't limited to five times in which
there is open space in the conference, but rather that there is a meeting
method that has great value for collaborative change: Open Space Technology.

I like that the one method that is going to be included in the conference
itself as a method is Open Space Technology. I like that Harrison is one of the
speakers for this first time gathering of people from many communities of
practice, scholars, artists, and more. Open Space Technology remains (30 years)
my favorite of the large group interventions.

Now, back to the conference. It might be the right time, in the absence of a
WOSONOS conference, to enter into a collaborative playground that is designed
to enrich with learning of more that is happening in the growing field of
collaborative change.

with appreciation to all that you are and all that you do towards a more life
nourishing world,

Birgitt
