Thanks Harry, but something is still not right. Following your instructions, I copied the GPXR08.render file from (a) Internal storage\osmand\rendering. to (b) Internal storage\Android\data\net.osmand.plus\files\rendering. I then shut down Osmand, and re-booted the phone. On re-starting Osmand, the standard thick purple line is still preset. 1) What have I missed? 2) Should all the old Osmand files also be removed? 3) If so, can they just be deleted (eg using an external file manager)?
