A factory reset of your phone/tablet?
I assume that helps as you loose everything. If you had installed a lot of
apps which were auto-starting and "hanging" in memory, a factory reset
would get rid of them and indeed make your phone faster as OsmAnd would
have had a lot of more memory available.

However, the first thing I would have done would have been going to
(Android) Settings -> Application Management; Find OsmAnd and remove all
data from OsmAnd.
This would "initiate" OsmAnd again, but would not have reset your entire
phone/tablet.
This is sometimes necessary as Osmand very occasionally screws up its
config settings in its internal database in app settings.

Of, course: first save your favorites and the like.
