I miss that functuality too, but found a way around it. Click on the map the point you want to set as destination. It should show on top of the screen as a waypoint, if not go to the waypoint function in "settings". Click on this address (in the middle, on the right it gives a "remove" box), and a large option box shows. Select " directions from". That gives you the destination flag, and the red pointer.
The right side option menu of the waypoint function should have the "set as destination" option besides "remove".
