I think the easiest way to make a route is as follows. Put markers on the places where you want to come. Then use Measure Distance to make the route. This works fine if you enable the 'position on the road' function. It is regrettable that the GPX track can not display a height profile.

Got them all lined up again and then the routing function bypassed a lot of them to get the shortest route.... but it also backtracked to get to some markers.
