This isn't quite the same, but if you record a GPX on your ride, you'll get a distance counter and, at the end, a lot of statistics. I don't think you can pause and reset the counter, though, unless you just record another GPX, which would mess with the stats. See https://youtu.be/bjbqrVkFEtY for a demo.
