However, doing it that way it looks as if I'd have to sacrifice the normal
car, bike, and walk profiles as a means of having them available for three
boat speeds. Hmmm. Not sure I'd be willing to lose them.

Maybe Max's idea is the way forward.
And if it works, you may be able to explain how I could also use the
thin-dotted-route-line instead of the thick purple one.
