Rather compatible versions of routing.xml and osmand, the best if extracted
from the APK file of used osmand.
As combination latest release of Android and latest XML file from GitHub
may cause crashes.

I did use it.
Make sure to have the latest osmand for the latest routing.xml
It's just besides the map files.
However, osmand kept crashing more frequently than without. Thus I do
rename it to routing90.xml whenever I do not need it: I had changed the
maxspeed to 90 (traveling with a trailer)
