Try changing the map style: My maps/Map Style. Each option shows the active route differently. I've been experimenting with the LightRS style in day mode, which produces a transparent green active route against orange and grey streets. If you really want contrast, the OsmAnd style in night model (My maps/Map mode/Night) produces a yellow route on a dark background. Dramatic, but admittedly the streets are harder to see.
