Thanks, Bart. I understand how to set the start and end points, and additional points in between. The question is how can I get Osmand to calculate a route? It doesn't do that by itself, does it?

To make a route in advance from an arbitrary point to a destination:

Make sure you have downloaded the Standard or Roads-only map(s) for the areas you're interested in.  Then... 

Mark your starting point, then Actions > Directions from. A green flag will appear
Mark your destination, then Directions.  A checkered flag will appear and the route should be shown.  If the route is long, it may take a while to calculate, or you may need to put in intermediate destinations.

Do not press Go (until you're ready to navigate it).

I have enabled the development option.
