If you prefer not to see them, that's your call. I find them highly useful as they are visible landmarks, helping to orient me when hiknig and driving. Plus power lines are interesting :-) This is the first request I remember seeing to not render them. It might be that a more general feature to avoid rendering various things would be useful, as I suspect each person has things that they don't want to see.
