Hi Helmut, thanks again for reporting this.

We investigated the issue and tested the direction fan around the current
location marker separately from the recent compass widget changes.

The recent changes affect how compass direction is updated in widgets, but
we could not find any connection between them and the direction fan on the
map. The fan is updated from the device's compass/orientation sensor data
even while the position and map remain stationary.

One setting that can noticeably affect its responsiveness is the **Kalman
filter**. OsmAnd uses it to smooth compass readings and reduce small sensor
fluctuations, but on some devices this smoothing can also make direction
changes appear delayed or sluggish.

You can try disabling it here:

*Menu → Settings → Configure profile (e.g. Browse map) → General settings →
Other → Use Kalman filter → Off*

More details about this profile setting are available in the OsmAnd
documentation <https://osmand.net/docs/user/personal/profiles/#other>.

We also compared OsmAnd with a standalone compass app on a test device.
With the Kalman filter disabled, both reacted similarly to rotation and
showed only small settling corrections after the device stopped rotating.
This suggests that any remaining small delay or correction may come from
the device sensors or Android's orientation processing rather than from
OsmAnd's map rendering.

Could you please try disabling the Kalman filter in the OsmAnd settings and
let us know whether the direction fan becomes more responsive?
