Hi,
now I have the files ready for your inspection, on
http://www.geofabrik.de/tmp/
MD5 sums:
9d278ee963925ed34701431b8573e0bf europe-created-on-linux.osm.pbf
c4186d9197225e97f5bc935be09881e8 europe-created-on-windows.osm.pbf
file sizes:
4448335290 2010-12-14 14:24 europe-created-on-linux.osm.pbf
4448335278 2010-12-14 11:38 europe-created-on-windows.osm.pbf
The "europe-created-on-linux" was created by me with Osmsois
SNAPSHOT-r24405, a simple --write-pbf task with compress=deflate.
Henning says that simply trying to convert that to XML with Osmosis
fails on his windows machine, while it works all right here. The
"europe-created-on-windows" was produced from the .osm.bz2 that I used,
and seems to work under Windows.
(More precisely, what I am doing is I read a planet, cut out Europe, and
use a --tee 2 to write a .osm.pbf and a raw XML at the same time; that
raw XML is later compressed to bz2 and that was then used by Henning to
produce his PBF.)
I'm sorry that the files have to be so large but people report no
problems with smaller files...
Bye
Frederik
