BTW, the description for SNDCTL_DSP_GETISPACE and SNDCTL_DSP_GETOSPACE is wrong in the manual: Both have "Returns the number of currently recorded bytes" title in their pages and in http://manuals.opensound.com/developer/DSP.html . (GETOSPACE noted by mimix on #oss).
