Hi,

As some of you may have noticed I have forked the v4.2 development
thread. Now the hg server contains v4.2 and the v4.1 version is only
available as tarballs (it might be possible that a hg server gets set up
for v4.1-stable in the future).

The v4.2 version has no MIDI support enabled by default. I plan to fix
the MIDI code in the near future. However at this moment it doesn't work
at all (opening MIDI device files will fail with EIO). I added the
ossmplay (MIDI player) under the tutorials/sndkit directory. This is the
same ossmplay program that existed in OSS 3.x.x. However it has been
modified to work with the v4.x MIDI interface instead of old
/dev/sequencer (libOSSlib library does the actual conversion).

Since there are now two versions it's important that bug fixes for v4.1
are not mixerd with new features for v4.2 when sending patches to me. I
will apply bug fixes to the v4.1 version (and roll forward to v4.2).
However new features will go only to the v4.2 tree. It may be impossible
to apply the patches if two kind of changes are mixed in the same diff.

I plan to keep v4.2 development phase as short as possible so that in
the future new major versions will be released every 6 months (even if
there are not so many changes).

Best regards,

Hannu
