For what it's worth, I also see instant lockups on FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE on amd64 with the Envy24 driver. I'm currently stuck using the default FreeBSD OSSv3 driver that has poor/broken full duplex support. I didn't consider that it might be an architecture problem...
