[ossec-list] Does /var/ossec/stats measure Events or Alerts?

Hi,

Can someone help explain what the values reported under /var/ossec/stats
refers to?  Does it refer to the amount of logs (events) that ossec has
processed?  or is it the amount of alerts generated?
