I don't use Windows systems in my current environment so I can't test but the differences between R2 and standard 2008 should not affect this based on my past experiences with R2 and differences I'm aware of. If you really want to test and have just a small amount of resources, VM it using VMWare server. That's how I demo things all the time to test.
