Hello, If you have sendmail installed on your system you can use "localhost" but i had the same errormessage for a while and i found a way around are you using csf firewall from http://www.configserver.com ? if yes then you need to add the user ossec is running as to "SMTP_ALLOWUSER" in csf options and restart did this helped you ?
