Install lighttpd
Install php
Get them to work together
untar the wui source somewhere in your document root, apply patches
(or download from https://bitbucket.org/ddpbsd/ossec-wui )
Run setup.sh
Start lighttpd
Go to http://your_server/where/you/installed/wui/index.php
Enjoy!

It was really that simple, I didn't really have to do anything.

When I use a gui, I generally use logstash + graylog2. I don't often
use one though (I don't have a large installation).

Other people like ELSA, and I think it seems neat. Splunk is also usable.
