OK, I found the problem. The other servers are running an older version of Solaris 10. I upgraded the 'faulty' box to Solaris 10, update 10. The /etc/nsswitch.cong did not have hosts: files dns, only hosts: files. I didn't think if was a system problem since during the install, it was able to contact the remote mail server. Thanks.
