Did you installed ossec from source or from a package on your openSUSE
system? I'm in the process is packaging and deploying ossec to a large
number of openSUSE systems, 12.1, 12.3, 13.1 and SLE_11, and ossec
certainly works just fine across all those platforms.

>From your post on the forum you're saying ossec doesn't start on boot.
What is the output of the following command:

sudo /etc/init.d/ossec-hids status

and

ps -aef |grep ossec

This will tell us if there any ossec process running and the init status.

FYI..the ossec-hids rpm build package links, to
home:deadpoint/ossec-hids, from the forum posts are to my repository
and package. That package, at least for the moment, is outdated and
incomplete and if memory serves me doesn't work so don't use it. I
have a working RPM package which I'm "fine tuning" the packaging but
haven't made the sources publicly available yet.
