I know this is an old topic, but this is the thread I found when looking 
for the problem...and the root cause is something worth keeping an eye on.

We're running 2.7 and it wouldn't reliably start up.  After scratching my 
head and digging into stuff for a LONG time, I got a message indicating the 
disk was full.  But it was showing only 66% utilized.

The problem wasn't the disk space, it was the inode table was full.  No 
files could be written to it, including the PID file.

Just something to add to the "possible problem" list.

That being said, do you have a recommended inode setting to use when 
creating a file system?
