Silence, citizen! As Chuck points out, they had throwing knives!
Just like every hippie juggler male I knew in college. But clearly
they intended to use those to murder cops in body armor, in formation,
carrying automatic weapons!
The behavior of the authorities in these searches was shameful and
unamerican. Frankly, so is Chuck's defense of them.
Mind you, this isn't to say I disagree with the arrests of some of the
protesters who actually *did* do things yesterday like damaging
windows and setting fires. That's entirely reasonable, on the
apparently-now-unfashionable theory of: it's okay to arrest someone
for *committing* a crime, but not for possessing things that look like
maybe they could be used to commit a crime, based in some way on the
say-so of an informant about whom we know nothing, that wasn't
convincing enough to get a judge to issue a warrant or result in more
than a spattering of arrests.
Of course, wait for Chuck to argue that this *proves* that there was
violence afoot! (On the other hand, I think it proves that the
initial searches were pretty clearly going after the wrong people.)
Expect to hear Code Pink mentioned, and equated with the DNC, DLC,
Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Howard Dean (YEARGH!), and FDR.
