I think the point is that "peaceful" was never the intent of the people involved. I still contend that you don't need throwing knives to have a successful and peaceful protest. The police say they reacted to bottles and rocks being thrown at them. Considering the fact that people were tossing stuff off of bridges, breaking windows, breaking public benches and dumping trash cans[1] and there is plenty of video supporting this, I'd tend to believe the cops on this one, but I'm sure the truth will come out.
