I think this is more personal than that.
I think there is going to be a showdown between the neocons
and Christers within the GOP, yes, partly about who screwed up, and
partly about who gets to control what is left. In that, I expect the
godbags will back Pain and the neocons McCain, and the godbags will
win. They will win because they have far more of the grassroots
organisation, and because the neocons have now been pretty much
discredited in every respect, now they can't even talk economics
without looking embarrassed. So, in short, Chuck and those like him
will continue to find plenty of reasons to be embarrassed to be
associated with the GOP for a while yet.
But I actually don't think this quick early backlash is about
that. I actually really think it is because the McCain staffers just
fucking hate her.
