Free Market, eh? How's that working out for you?
I imagine he thinks that the inevitable inefficiences in large burocracies that are not profit oriented make the whole thing a disaster.
Whereas a system based on profit should not be allowed near healthcare. A health insurer's primary responsibility is to increase shareholder value. Everything else is secondary. This means refusing grey-area claims is obligatory; To pay out on dubious claims is against the duties of all employees.
I would much rather not be forced to rely on a system whose entire remit is to try to weasel out of providing me with healthcare.
A true free market would push Libertarianism and health insurance is against the basic Randian tenets, yet try telling a Libertarian not to insure his childrens' healths. Free Market works best when everyone but you has to follow the rules.
