Hi, I think that 4.4 is the only source release since OTB started shipping binaries. The idea is that between 4.2 and 4.4 there was no new main feature in the library, but just a lot of minor things. Since OTB was going to be modularized for 5.0, the dev team thougth that it was useful to tag a release. They will correct me if I am wrong.
