That is untrue. OTB 4.4.0 is compatible with both internal and external
ITK, and in the future (OTB 5.0), only external ITK will be supported
(as superbuild will allow to build the external ITK if you miss it).

We need more detail. What error do you get, at which step ? Can you post
your CMake configuration for OTB ?
then I build OTB without script.bat but with cmake => error
Again, we need the complete error to try to help you ...
then I build external ITK, but I can't configure OTB in cmake so that
it uses external ITK (OTB_USE_EXTERNAL_ITK and ITK_DIR seem not to work)
Let's focus on one method and try to make it work !
