You also shed some light on why I was getting very different outputs using 
the same parameters, using Monteverdi 1 vs 2 - I presume it's because of 
different filters used, as you suggest (below)? I will most likely use the 
mean shift segmentation tool through the command line (i.e., 
otbcli_Segmentation from the OSGeo4W tools) or through Python the way the 
OTB CookBook describes - are those methods using what Monteverdi 2 is using 
for filters?

Monteverdi1 doesn't use the same filters so you should not try to 
compare them.
