Xdk is package with all dependencies. think of you superbuild of OTB without OTB!. That means all dependencies expect glibc, compiler, and cmake is given to you.
you just need OTB sources to get OTB without worrying about if there is any of external libraries exist in you system or not. And you are right Software guide does not include this topic and is not a mistake. it is in an experimental stage right now. Maybe after next one or two releases we get them to be in a stable state and will be in SFG steps are very simple.
