re client centredness and spirituality...i have been hoping for ages this topic might come up on the listserve!

the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance puts spirituality its core ie all other occupations revolve around and are therefore interdependent with a sense of spirituality...spirituality seen in this way in intrinsic to all human existance (and occupations!)...

...actually  I think some ofthe members of the list may be using the terms "spirituality" and "religion" interchangeably...i think they have completely different meanings....religion is essential doctrinal and prescriptive..
spirituality is intimately personal (and perhaps even transpersonal)

i seem to recall (please excuse the paraphrasing!) that the canadian model defines spirituality as existing when there is "something missing" from life eg as in the transition from occupational imbalance or occupational deprivation towards recovery and healing...

personally, i have a bit of a problem with the concept of placing an artifical barrier - intellectual construct - between me and the person with whom i am developing and implementing occupationally based interventions...

it feels silly to be saying "i will not allow the spirirtual aspect of my self and my OT practice influence how i enact that practice"...if my sense of spirituality is connected  to eveything i do, then how can i remove "it" from what i do ?

congratulations to everyone for their efforts in making this listserv a great resource!
cheers,
