re: Enough to be dangerous.

When I used to work as an OT, I would get questions about child development
from various people. When I was a young ambitious OT working in a VA
hospital, I found myself trying to explain what OTs do with peds.
Unfortunately, I made it sound like OTs were overpaid babysitters. I
couldn't adequately explain what peds OTs did because I wasn't a peds OT.
Now, I just refer people to my sister who is a peds OT and she has no
problems explaining and justifying what she does.

My point is this: The OT profession practices in several areas. OT
PROFESSIONS DO NOT!!!

Personally, I think it makes the profession look good when we stress to
others that there are OTs who specialize in peds, geriatrics, mental health,
etc. Doctors do it all the time.

To sum, I think your PT friend has a point. The danger, though, is that
there are *individual therapists* who know just enough to be dangerous.
Others know when to refer.

What did you PT friend say about how PTs "cure" dementia patients?... or do
they also just work with symptoms?
