I am so lucky. I work in long term acute setting and we do not have
productivity. We are actually trusted that we are productive without showing
percentages on paper. It is a blessing. And the time I spend doing little
things for pts., that PPS would never let me bill for, is so appreciated by
families, pts. and my CEO.

I know on this list there is been controversy regarding what OT's do vs. what
PT's do. But...I feel as an OT I have something just as special to offer a
pt. You know, how all pt's "want to walk" and you have to go through the
speech about how valuable ADL's are to daily existence. But, the
satisfaction I receive from the appreciation of providing a shower for the
first time to a pt. that has been only able to bath in bed or at sink level
is indescribable. I convinced a male pt yesterday that it was time to move
on to the shower and said I would be in his room in the morning. He was so
grateful, in his accent, said you were right, it was good. You are the best
washer. Even though, he did 3/4 of the work. Ahhh, such job satisfaction,
only an OT can experience. I am happy to be an OT. Maybe others don't
recognize the important of an OT, but I do and so do my pts. Just some
thoughts.
