Hi Ron

>From the information that I have been presented, South Carolina is the only
state that requires continuing recertification with NBCOT. There are other
states which continue to use OTR but not require recertification. I think,
if memory serves me correctly, they are Michigan, Illinois, and Kentucky.
Perhaps someone in those states can let us know. All other states/districts
allow the use of alternate credentials such as LOT, OT/L, LOTA, etc... The
variations of credentials are endless. With AOTA now finalizing their own
plans for continuing competency we have to question whether there are too
many cooks in the kitchen. How much regulation is too much? All states have
their own continuing competency requirements/licensing arrangements now,
California was one of the last big states to implement their own licensing
board so they could have control over the therapists that work within their
borders. I use the credentials LOT since continuing competency with NBCOT
was not required by my state or by my employer. It's always good to check
your state guidelines and with your employer before allowing your NBCOT
certification to expire.
