Jennifer, Although I don't have any specific references for you, the European Health and Safety week in October 2002 focused on back care for children, and in particular on the school bags and back packs. You might find something from that on-line. Also the Airedale Hospital Trust in Yorkshire, UK, has a programme of back care for children in its area - again, I think that they have a web site.
