Hi Biraj! Excellent thoughts about OT role in mental health. I am currently working in Mental Health, in rural Victoria, Australia, doing a functional assessments is quite helpful within the multidisciplinary team and only an OT can do that, I use the AMPS in assessing client's level of independence.

Working in a community mental health in rural area of Victoria, Australia. Most of my clients want to go back to work however their prevocational skills needs to be assessed. In my area the resources is not that good, so I initiated to do a pilot project that enables me to assess their work/pre-vocational skills onsite. The project will start either end of this month or first week of September. The project  is about selling foods for the staff in mental health, the client will sell the food. The client will have a job description and a timesheet. This project will run for eight weeks. During that period the OT will have an opportunity to assess the client's work skills.

This is the good thing I find working in mental health, it gives OT an opportunity to be creative in our unique field!

cheers

Roy
