Will and all,
I'm a part time worker for a successful technology company that was founded by
an OT. Besides OT, the founder also had a background in software engineering,
mostly web programming such as yourself. He started the company by producing
computer-based health education for consumers and computer-based productivity
tools for clinics/hospitals and for research. The success of the company came
from his ability to incorporate his background as an OT with his technology
skills. This is how he sold himself and the company to potential contractees.
For example, one of our early contracts was with Fisher Price to produce a
parenting tool. They went with us because we were able to sell ourselves as
being knowledgeable about child development as OTs AND had the technology
know-how to create a product that would be useful. Keep in mind that most
technology companies are staffed with IT people that have no other skills so you
can greatly capitalize on this fact if you play your cards right.

I guess what I'm saying is that our company started by thinking a little
differently. Instead of thinking about "IT areas within OT", we were thinking
about "OT areas within IT".
