X HB 807 calls for the deletion of language in Florida Statutes
requiring the Department of Health to implement an electronic CE tracking
system. The above associations are in support of improving the Department's
system of ensuring that licensees comply with CE requirements and are
working together on methods for making the compliance system better. But we
strongly oppose the current path the Department is taking. It is unfair to
the 518,334 health care professionals licensed by the Department. The
system is also unfair to the many thousand CE providers in Florida.

X The Department has contracted with a company (CE Broker) to track the
CE hours taken by health care licensee's. Licensees must pay the company
$35 per biennium to view the hours the company has in their file. The
licensees are being told by the Department and by CE Broker that if the
correct number of hours are not reflected in CE Broker's file, they will
lose their license.

X The rule the Department is attempting to pass to implement these new
requirements has been questioned by the Joint Administrative Procedures
Committee in a letter dated January 20, 2004. JAPC questions all aspects of
the new requirements, including the Department's authority to enter into the
contract with CE Broker. Please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] to obtain a copy
of this letter.

X The associations listed above agree that licensees should comply with
their CE requirements and are working on ways to accomplish this goal. But
HB 807 does away with a broken system and should be supported.

VOTE YES ON HB 807
