Mara,

If you don't mind, we are right in the middle of a crisis right now so don't
have time for pleasantries from any students who are thrilled to be entering
the wonderous world of OT.

OK, I am totally kidding. Maybe it's just my twisted sense of humour, but
your letter and cheerful enthusiasm are in stark contrast to a dilemma Ron
is facing: I've been reading through the letters that started with Ron's
Web Hosting company showing up on the deck of the OTlist ship, installed an
electronic plank and have told him that he has to walk the 90 AOL members
off of it, or risk having the ship blown out of the water. Then we have
read grateful letters from a few distressed AOL members who have not yet
been forced to walk the plank. You can feel the tension building and almost
hear the ominous incidental music playing in the background.

Then you burst onto the scene with a cheerful greeting and express your
enthusiasm and refreshing hope and gratitude. I can imagine my shipmates
almost jumping with your sudden arrival then quickly returning to their
previous state of distress. O.k. I will admit that I really don't get out
very much so my sense of humour may be a wee bit more off kilter than usual.

Seriously, welcome to the group. Ron has established a great forum for
discussing current and perennially important OT topics. I just found the
archives today as well which you may find very useful too.

Regarding the AOL concern: Just before I saw Mimiru's idea about using a
Hotmail (or similar) account to recieve the OTlist letters, I was wondering
the same thing. I can't see why it wouldn't work, unless Hotmail has a
similar sensitivity to SPAM. Otherwise if you set up Hotmail, Ron would
have it sent there, you could read it there and either deal with it from
that address, or forward to your AOL account. Hopefully you wouldn't report
your own Hotmail as spam through AOL, but even if someone did something like
that either on purpose ( I don't know why), or by accident, I think it would
be the Hotmail account that would be IDed as the spammer. One thing to
check into with Hotmail though is to see if it leaves you in any way
vulnerable to viruses. Recently we receieved a message from the IS
department at our hospital telling us to be careful of using Hotmail
accounts ( I think it was about opening any attachments, because they may be
able to slip by somehow? )

This is obviously a serious issue but I think the hotmail option would
likely remedy it.

Good luck to our AOL friends,
Greg

Subject: [OTnow] Assessments

Hi everyone!

I'm a Junior OT student in the Bachelor's program at Xavier in Cincinnat,
OH, USA. Its great to hear what "real" professionals are doing out there.
I'm currently taking a class on Measurement; I was just wondering what kinds
of standardized (or non standardized) assessments you guys used and what
populations you work with. Thanks! Mara
