Hi Jimmie, DCD is an abbreviation for Developmental Coordination Disorder. It occurs when a delay in the development of motor skills or difficulty coodinating movements, results in a child being unable to perform daily tasks. The DSM-IV indicates that a diagnosis can only be made if the movement difficulties are due to no known physical, neurological, or behavioural disorders. These children are your typical 'clumsy' (to use an outdated expression) children who struggle with any motor planning activities, have associated difficulties with spatial awareness (thus lots of bumps into inanimate objects, hmmm... could be describing myself at this point...) Anyway, lots of different difficulties esp. dressing, using knife and fork together, brushing teeth, toiletting, etc. Hope that helps clarify... Veronica

Wish I'd thought of it since my spelling leaves much to be desired! Anyway, I do wish others would respond to messages that are forwarded (says me who wishes someone would let her know if there is anyone out there working with PTs and Consultants in a DCD clinic setting...anyone...please...) YOURS may be the only reply that someone receives!! 2. If you post a message that goes unanswered, repost it in a couple of days. I TRY to answer messages, even if it's a "sorry I can't help but maybe someone else can". I know it's discouraging to post a message and not to get a response. Think of us as one happy family of OT practitioners with an occasional PT and OT spouse thrown in!! When one of us has a question, others should rush in to help!!
