I agree with you that fragmentation is our major concern and would love to
find a way to band our resources. However, the reason we formed F-COT ( as
rudimentary as it is) was because we did not have any one forum that zeroed
in on the two major issues that OTs somehow either do not believe that it
will effect them or just want to wait and see how it would effect them-
doctoral entry and direct access. I do know that we are all split on this
issue and there has been no good debate or consensus of any kind within the
profession, much unlike the audiologists, pharmacists and now physical
therapists. I wonder why ? F-COT is a sincere effort to educate OTs on the
educational trends of similar professions. With the expanding knowledge base
of every profession, expansion of scope is natural. OTs already have a lot
to compete against, mainly because we are non-competitive by history. We are
always playing defence, no one scores without charging. F-COT hopes to get a
feel of what the "everyday" OTs feel about these issues. This we again hope,
will give the association at least a glimpse of what the OTs in medical
settings feel (since the expansion of scope and apparent public image of
similar "medically" related professions will effect this group the most).
Ofcourse, we each, based upon our setting, are trying to explain OT (just as
the most common analogy goes) like the blind men decribed the elephant. And,
actually I do not see it as a big problem as long as we all understand that
we all are describing the parts, which together forms the body of OT. Let me
know, if you or anyone out there has any suggestion how we can indeed put
our strengths together.

Hello Joe:
I took a look at your site.
I can't help but wonder if having yet another OT site is doing the
profession good. It seems to me, there are already many sites, boards,
groups etc (including OTnow) promoting OT or promoting dissatisfaction
with OT.
Isn't fragmentation one of the problems with OT?
Wouldn't the profession be better served if we could ban our 'resources'
together?
Thanks,
Ron

JW> 1. Status-quo on what actually should be the right entry for
JW> OTs (while more than 50% of PT schools are already giving-out
JW> entry-level doctorates and by 2013, 85% are estimated to move to a
