In the recent Advance for OT, Dec 12, 2005, there's an article on page
30 called "Rehab for Parkinson". The article's headings include:

1. Mobility

2. Dexterity and Coordination

The mobility section is about PT and includes such statements as:

"Studies show that [PT] that incorporates functionally specific
training can improve stride length, seep cadence,..."

[PT] intervention should feature activities that incorporate the
interaction between gait training, balance activities and
        posture in a functional context"

"For example, have patients perform gait training in the context
of a homemaking activity that requires her to scan an area for
objects and then reach to retrieve them."

The dexterity section is about OT and includes such statements as:

"[OT] interventions and adaptive techniques that minimize the
negative effects of tremors can improve performance in self
        care, leisure and work-related activities."

"Strengthening through functional activity performance, with or
without adaptations, is beneficial to improve grip strength,
fine motor control and overall coordination"

"As a result, ADL performance, leisure activities and overall
quality of life may also get better"

It seems to me that this article, which is co-authored by an OT,
perpetuates the sad reality that OT is UE and PT is LE. Or at least PT
is LE WHEN EVER PT's work with OT's.
