I am sending this out into the ether in the hope that some of you great OTs out there can help me! This is the question--Is it the role of OTs to address the sexual needs of older disabled people and their carers? This is the beginning of the formulation of a research question. Do you think it is in the domain of OT to address sexuality? Are we, as people who profess to practice holistically, viewing the person as an integrated whole missing out a great chunk of who they are if we do not acknowledge sexual needs. For this purpose I am defining sexual needs to include all things intimate not merely the act of sex. If you have any views or can point me in the direction of someone who has please respond.
