Well Carmen, your "challenge" didn't generate any responses!! <smile>

I know some of you won't believe my next story, but it's true!

I've been seeing a man who was recently discharged from rehab. He
really came a long way but he was there a LONG time - something like 8
weeks.

He's back home now and really still debilitated. He wants to return to
his previous level of daily function. But his fatigue and knee pain
are inhibiting his independence.

Today, he and I were talking about his rehab. He expressed how much
time was wasted by waiting for therapists and by doing "silly" stuff.
He went on to say something about some sort of plastic arc.<smile>
Given my recent "rant", I just about fell out of my seat!! He also
mentioned about picking cones off the floor and how silly he felt. The
therapist reasoned that when he got home he would drop things and that
he would need to pick them up. Makes sense except that his therapist
had him picking up cones while he was seated! Maybe this was the best
thing at the time, but the patient didn't seem to think so.

Perhaps the most interesting comment involved the therapist trying to
simulate the patient's home. I know from working in rehab, you
generally want a good idea of a patient's home environment. How many
steps, bathroom layout, carpets, etc. My patient said that his rehab
therapist explained that she was trying to "simulate" his home
environment, a noble deed! However, his comment was, its just not
possible. I think his point is well taken in that no matter how hard
we try, its just not possible to capture many of the nuances that make
up one's living environment, not that we shouldn't try.
